1. Introduction
Aspiro Consulting Limited trading as CookBook ("we", "our" or "us") runs CookBook, a recipe app with an AI chef. This policy explains what we collect when you use it, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
2. What we collect
2.1 Your account
- Your name and email address
- How you sign in: Google, Apple, or your email and a password. A password is stored scrambled (hashed), never as you typed it
- What you add to your profile in Settings: your cooking level, a few words about you, dietary preferences, allergies and favourite cuisines
2.2 Your cooking
- Recipes you save, import or write, their versions, and earlier copies kept so a change can be undone
- Cookbooks you make, and the cooks you add to them as collaborators
- Your cooking journal: when you cooked, ratings, notes and photos
- Your favourites, and your connections with other cooks
- Discover's idea rows made for you
2.3 Photos
Photos you add to recipes, cookbooks and journal entries, and photos of cookbook pages you import (kept as that recipe's photo), are stored with Cloudinary. A photo you send to the chef in a chat goes to the AI to answer your question and is not stored.
2.4 The chef
When you ask the chef (the chef-hat button, or "Ask or customise this recipe" on a recipe), we send your question to Anthropic's Claude with what it needs to answer: what's on your screen (such as the recipe and your last few cooks of it), your profile and what the chef remembers about you.
- The conversation is kept on your device, not on our servers: the last 30 messages, without photos, until you start a new chat. Chats from the earlier Sous-Chef, before 19 October 2026, were kept on our servers; they were all deleted on 20 October 2026
- The chef's memory is kept on your account: facts it saves when you tell it about yourself or the people you cook for, such as a diet or an allergy. It shows a "Remembered" note in the chat when it does, and you can change or delete any of them in Settings
2.5 On your device
Your browser or the app keeps a few things on your device: the chef conversation, the recipe you were last cooking (so Home can offer to carry on), and settings such as keeping the screen awake. A cookie keeps you signed in.
3. How we use it
- To run CookBook: keep your recipes, cookbooks and journal, and show them to you
- For the AI features: the chef, importing a recipe from a link or photo, customising a recipe, suggested changes after a cook, Discover's ideas and nutrition estimates
- To let you share cookbooks and connect with other cooks
- To send emails about your account, such as confirming your address or resetting your password
- To keep CookBook secure and stop misuse
We don't sell your data and we don't use it for advertising.
4. Who we share it with
Only the services that run CookBook for us, each with what it needs:
- Google and Apple, if you sign in with them
- Resend, which sends our account emails if you sign in with your email address
- Cloudinary, which stores and resizes photos
- Anthropic (Claude), for the AI features above. It receives the text and photos needed for each: your question, recipe and journal text, your profile (including dietary preferences and allergies) and the chef's memory
- Higgsfield, which makes a stand-in photo for a recipe saved without one. It receives the recipe's name, cuisine and a short description
- MongoDB Atlas, our database, and Vercel, which hosts the app
We may also share data where the law requires it, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.
5. What other cooks can see
- Anyone signed in to CookBook who has the link to one of your recipes or cookbooks can open it. CookBook doesn't list your recipes for other people to browse
- A cookbook shows its recipes to anyone who opens it, except recipes you've made private: those show only to you and to the cooks you've shared that cookbook with. A private recipe still opens for anyone who has its own link. Recipes start public
- Cooks you add to a cookbook as collaborators can change its recipes
- Other cooks can find you by your name, or by your exact email address, to connect or share a cookbook with you. They see your name and picture, not your email. You can turn this off with "Let other cooks find me" in Settings
6. Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and passwords are stored hashed. No way of storing or sending data over the internet is completely secure, so we can't promise it never will be.
7. Your rights
You can:
- See and correct what we hold about you; most of it is in the app and in Settings
- Delete your account and your data, in Settings
- Ask for a copy of your data
- Object to, or ask us to limit, how we use your data
For a copy of your data, or anything else here, email us (below) and we'll reply within 30 days.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. Deleting your account in Settings deletes, straight away, your account, recipes and their versions, cookbooks, journal, the chef's memory, Discover's ideas and your connections, and asks Cloudinary to delete your photos. Copies may stay in our providers' backups for a limited time after that.
9. Age
CookBook isn't meant for anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you think we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we'll post the new version here and change the date at the top. If you keep using CookBook after a change, the updated policy applies.
